I expected the early history of women's health to be horrific but the depth and breadth of the continued misogyny in medicine surprises me. As a young woman I chose female medical professionals because I believe they are better able to understand. This book affirms the wisdom of that decision. Dr. Cleghorn has provided an extremely complete survey of the history of medicine as it impacted women. Things were not so good for men during the millennia; it was simply too difficult to know the nature of ill-ness. Much worse for women because what men thought they knew was so false. Nobodies fault until the Reaissance when the advances of science tried to fit the traditional thinking. Many a square peg was driven into a round hole!
